First Year Experience (FYE) learning communities bring together the collaborative efforts of four departments at LBCC: Counseling, English, Math, and Learning and Academic Resources. FYE offers learning communities designed for students who would like to receive extra support in the first year of college. These communities promote success in the math and English courses that students often find challenging as they begin their college careers.
FYE students join a community of dedicated instructors and learners for a two-semester sequence that fulfills pre-collegiate or transfer requirements.
We provide services such as orientation to college life and expectations, instruction in study skills essential for academic success, strategies to succeed in selected general education courses and continued guidance in preparation for transfer to a four-year college/university.
FYE is designed for students who are planning on transferring to a four-year college or university and would like to receive extra support during their first year of college. In the Fall, FYE English includes English 105, Learn 11, and Counseling 1 and FYE Math includes Math 110, Learn 11, and Counseling 1. In the Spring, FYE English includes English 1 and Counseling 48, and FYE Math includes Math 130 and Counseling 48. FYE students also participate in tutoring, academic counseling, and motivational activities outside of class. FYE English students must be eligible for English 105; FYE Math students must be eligible for Math 110.
